C-19. Women.Art.Solidarity 2020

Žalike2030

Frauen.Kunst.

Project description

About

Žalike2030  poject participants are 5 female artists (dance, fine arts, music) from Austria and Slowenia.

Project titel photo image is donated by ACD-Ambassador for dance arts and project participant Andrea Nagl who thematizes in her contemporary art works the body as a part of the natural landscapes in the current global discourses.

The project participants worked isolated during the C-19 "first wawe measures" such as social distancing, remote work,  existentiall uncertainity due to the cancelled and postponed art events.

By creating contemporary art response to the current crisis, thematizing natural environment, mental health and working conditions of art and cultural professionals, participants have shared a virtual space within a Fb group as an imaginative community, exchanging their creative works, worries, perspectives, suggestions, and support each other`s by practicing the culture of solidarity in uncertain time and sharing their experiences within a global virtual space.

The motto of the European initiative "Unity in Diversity" which promotes the linguistic variety of the european language landscape, has been applied in the filed of artistic variety of expressions, starting in the literary field with poetry and mythology to dance arts languages, drawings, media to spoken languages such as German, Slowenian and English.

Inspiration, Urgency, addressing issues

Project participants have started online activites by call of the ACD-Agency for Cultural Diplomacy president Tatjana Christelbauer to continue their preparatory activities for the Žalike2030  project start, to sustain people-to-people interaction beyond European borders and in times of travel restrictions and social distancing; to maintain cultural life and social experiences with a European outreach in times of home lockdown and prepare the ground for a cultural revival after the crisis; to develop new approaches in operations of cultural and art work and build new alliances across sectors to deal with the current challenges imposed by the crisis.

Collection of artistic works (paintings, drawings, poetry, dance pieces, music composition, photography, linguistic landscape, cultural political educational sessions and activities toward solidarity by taking part in the initiative “fair pay”, consulting each other`s in the time of isolation on family activities and child care, sharing their experiences with other communities and individuals across Europe and globally.

Our geographic focus is local (Vienna, Austria), European (European cultural ties Slowenia, Austria, than beyond), and global (UN Agenda 2030).

Urgency is given by COVID-19 Crisis which have caused even more existential uncertainity for Art&Cultural professionals (mainly focussing on female artists-gender pay gap), isolation and canceled working projects, lack of space for creation,  which affects the mental health a.o. causes.

Promoting Local, European and global Culture of Solidarity in the time of crisis

The project is reinforcing solidarity and the notion of Europe as a shared public space through the virtual community work while creating isolated but sharing values such as protection of the natural environment, keeping the mental health strong in the time of crisis through art practice by creation, exchange and share of their multiple artistic responses to the current COVID-19-crisis and its afterschocks among each other`s and with wider audiences, as a community.

By imagining the future within a virtual space, female artists are also creating opportunities for economical progress of professionals in the fields of art and culture through their engagement in the actual political initiatives such as “fair pay” by signing petitions and delivering evidence based data and suggestions for changes and establishment of sustainable financial based for professionals in the field of art and culture, mainly focusing on female actors as a more existentially threatened group regarding employment conditions, career opportunities and equal payment (gender gap).

Perceiving the art education and practice as a quality education (SDG4) which provides interactive and participative inclusive learning methods, accessible and understandable for all people, which supports the mental health, support development of attentive relations toward natural and among social environment among other benefits, project participants are building on base for sustainable development of such project which connects artistic fields within the local, European and global political context providing the culture based on “unity in Diversity” as a form of peaceful co-existence by shared values in a variety of expressions.

Project is intended to generate the impact of art on mental health in the time of crisis; encourage cultural political education for (female) artists to empower them in their further careers; create European virtual space as an imaginative  landscape with a sense of collectiveness as a shared European (and global) public space; provide example on European solidarity, create future working opportunities and build base for sustainable development of project with further participants and communities (European repertory on shared stories on natural powers in time with contemporary art forms.

Cooperation with Dance Academy at the Alma Mater Europea University up to fall 2020 will result with further creations of works which connects European cultural ties based on mythology with contemporary art forms and educational sessions on cultural diplomacy and political education for artists, to support them in their further career and employment conditions.

Our Objectives

Art is one of the most important languages of Cultural Diplomacy, especially by trust building and promotion of values.
In the time of crisis, artist can build bridges among donators and humanitarians, among victims and helpers, and support the culture of solidarity in a universally understandable language.
Emergency funds for the cultural and creative sector have been announced at national, regional or local levels in Austria, in the UK, in Germany, among other countries. Funding opportunities for the arts and culture will strengthen a culture of solidarity, but also raise the question of equal opportunities and future conditions. Professionals and practitioners in the fields of arts and culture belongs in a large number to such existentially threatened groups. Therefore our project aim is also to contribute to establishment of better employing opportunities not only during the COVID-19 crisis, but also for the better future.
